Visio-Max
[Questions & Answers]
I have been told by my eye-specialist to take selenium. Would Visio-MAX be helpful for me?
Visio-MAX is a selenium supplement for the eyes with additional antioxidants, co-factors and bilberry extract.
This product provides antioxidant vitamins and minerals in combination with bilberry extract. Selenium together with beta-carotene, vitamins C and E provide antioxidant protection enhancement, whilst bilberry extract provides anthocyanosides, which are a special type of pigment, that have an affinity for eye tissues and help to strengthen the fine blood vessels responsible for supplying oxygen and nutrients to the eyes. During World War II pilots used to eat bilberry jam because they believed that it aided night vision.
Is there anything I could take in addition to Visio-MAX?
Healthy vision requires many nutrients. It would appear that obtaining sufficient levels of zinc seems to have a part to play in safeguarding good eyesight. Researchers of the The Age-Related Eye Disease Study (AREDS), which was sponsored by the US National Eye Institute (NEI), found that those taking antioxidant vitamins with the addition of zinc had a lower risk of developing Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) than those who did not take the zinc.
Wassen Zinc-ACE could be combined with Visio-MAX. We would recommend that each of these products is taken at a different time of day to avoid any possible competition for absorption of the minerals. It would appear that a regular consumption of oily fish or fish oil products such as Wassen Omega-3 Fish Oil, together with plenty of colourful fruit and vegetables is helpful for the maintenance of eye health.
It is advised that those on medication or suffering from a medical condition consult their doctor prior to taking food supplements or making dietary changes, to make sure they are suitable.
How could Visio-MAX help my eyes?
Those who take Visio-MAX ensure that they get sufficient selenium on a daily basis from dietary sources. The availability of this trace element from the diet has declined considerably in the UK during the last twenty years. In addition this product provides co-factor antioxidants and bilberry extract to enhance the benefits of this product.
The eyes are particularly prone to free radical damage due to exposure to sun light, computer monitors and smoky atmospheres. It is believed that by ensuring that antioxidant nutrients are supplied in sufficient quantity from dietary sources a protective effect on the eye tissues may be achieved thus slowing free radical damage.
How exactly can bilberry help my eyes?
Bilberries contain a special type of pigment referred to as anthocyanosides. These seem to have an affinity for the pigmented tissues of the eyes and also exert a strengthening effect on the fine blood vessels, which provide oxygen and nutrients to all the body's tissues, including the eyes.
The physiological mechanism of vision relies on the generation of nerve impulses from the retina to the brain. This process depends on visual purple, also known as rhodopsin, a combination of opsin (protein) with vitamin A. Anthocyanosides have been shown to speed up the regeneration of rhodopsin and to improve adaptation to the dark.
It is interesting to note that World War II pilots used to eat bilberry jam prior to their missions as they believed it would improve the acuity of night vision.
Will Visio-MAX improve my eyesight?
Whilst the nutrients in Visio-MAX may well support the eye functionally and structurally, we are not aware that it can actually improve eye-sight.
I spend a lot of time in front of a computer monitor, would Visio-MAX be good for me?
To give specific nutritional support aimed for the eyes may well be of benefit for those who spend a lot of time in front of a VDU screen.

When is the best time to take Visio-MAX?

Are there any side-effects with Visio-MAX?
This product is usually very well tolerated. As with any food, there is always a possibility that individuals may have a sensitivity to one or more ingredients contained in the product. We always recommend that in the event of any unusual symptoms being noted upon taking our products they should be discontinued and, if necessary, a doctor consulted to rule out any other cause for the symptoms.
How many tablets per day can I take and can the product be taken on a long-term basis?
From a nutritional point of view it would be perfectly acceptable to take 1-2 tablets of Visio-MAX daily and to take this product on a long-term basis. However, if you are taking other vitamin and mineral supplements it is important not to exceed the maximum safety level of the active ingredients provided by all products.
