Menovone

[Questions & Answers]

Why do I need 'balancing' nutrition?

From about the mid-late thirties onwards, important changes occur in a woman's body, which can affect the way she looks and feels. These changes are believed to be at least in part, due to fluctuating hormone levels, and particularly changes in oestrogen levels. Usually between the age of 45 and 55, the menopause takes place, which is a natural stage in every woman's life, when oestrogen levels decline as monthly periods end.
Experiencing fluctuating oestrogen levels is completely natural, but it can be distressing. Often women experience health problems associated with these changes, which can continue for many years. Natural plant oestrogens (phytoestrogens), like those provided by Menovone, may play a part in helping to maintain oestrogen levels naturally.
In addition, the essential vitamins and minerals provided by Menovone have been selected because of their importance for women. It is often difficult to get all the nutrition your body needs through diet alone, so Menovone can help supplement deficiencies that may result from an incomplete diet.

What are slow-release isoflavones?

Isoflavones taken as supplements are absorbed and used up relatively quickly by the body. This means that isoflavones are not particularly suitable for a ‘one a day’ supplement and are more suited to being consumed at regular intervals throughout the day. Slow release isoflavones however, are absorbed more slowly, over a much longer period of time. This mimics much more closely the situation where isoflavones are obtained naturally from food in a high soy containing diet and makes them suitable for a convenient one-a-day tablet.

Is Menovone just for women in menopause?

Although this product is aimed towards women before, during and after the menopause, you don't need to wait until menopause to take Menovone. This product has been specifically formulated to help maintain hormonal health naturally, safely and gently and could benefit women of all ages.
Oestrogen fluctuations can begin as early as your 30s, although the peri-menopause (the years leading up to menopause) is often when women experience the most dramatic oestrogen fluctuations. Postmenopausal women can also benefit from the ingredients in Menovone.
Isoflavones have been shown to have benefits in terms of maintaining bone health and cardiovascular health. Menovone can therefore also be taken by anyone concerned about these aspects of their health.

What is the proper age for women to start taking Menovone?

There is no set age for starting Menovone and it depends on the individual. Menovone can be safely taken by women over the age of 18.

How should I take Menovone?

The recommended dosage is one tablet per day. We recommend taking Menovone in the morning or evening with a meal. Menovone is intended to be taken as a daily supplement.

How long can I take Menovone? Is it suitable to be taken on a long-term basis?

There is no reason why you should not be able to take Menovone for the rest of your life. However, if you notice any unwanted effects from Menovone, discontinue use, and consult your doctor to rule out any other cause for your symptoms.

Will Menovone be of benefit for my heart?

Isoflavones have been shown in scientific studies to benefit cardiovascular health. In addition, the nutrients folic acid, vitamin B6 and vitamin B12 have been shown to help control homocysteine levels. High homocysteine levels are a risk factor for cardiovascular and other health problems, so Menovone may also support a healthy heart in this way. In addition, vitamin E has been shown to play a positive role in cardiovascular health maintenance.

Does Menovone have a part to play in bone health?

There is evidence from scientific studies to suggest that isoflavones may have a beneficial role in maintaining bone health. This is believed to be due to their ‘oestrogen-like’ effects in the body, as oestrogen helps to prevent bone loss. This is the reason that when women go through the menopause and their oestrogen levels naturally decline, the rate of bone loss can increase. It is therefore particularly important for women of this age to look after the health of their bones.
Menovone also contains vitamin D, which is essential to bone health. It has been reported that many people in the UK are not meeting the requirements for Vitamin D.

Can I take Menovone if I have had breast cancer?

Anyone with a medical condition should consult their doctor before taking any nutritional supplements including Menovone.
With specific reference to isoflavones and breast cancer the general consensus is that although there is some evidence of a protective effect, until more is known about this relationship, anyone with breast cancer or a family history of breast cancer should not take soya isoflavone supplements.

I have heard soya is bad for the thyroid gland, is this true?

Soya is known to be a goitrogenic food. This means that it can reduce the uptake of iodine by the thyroid gland. Iodine is a trace mineral needed by the thyroid to make the thyroid hormones. Research has shown that supplementing iodine can counteract this problem which is the reason we have included iodine in the Menovone formula.
We advise anyone taking medication to check with their doctor before taking nutritional supplements to make sure they are compatible with their medication.

Will Menovone increase my sex drive?

Menovone does not directly affect libido. In theory it is possible that by improving overall health and wellbeing many benefits may be felt. Hormonal balance plays a large role in libido, but we do not have enough evidence to draw definite conclusions on this matter as it has not been thoroughly researched.

I am taking other nutritional supplements. Can Menovone be taken in addition to these?

Yes. The one-a-day tablets help safeguard your intake of several but not all essential vitamins and minerals. It is perfectly safe to take other vitamins, minerals and/or herbal products with Menovone, but it is recommended that you ensure that daily intake levels of individual nutrients are within recommended limits.

How soon can I expect to notice a benefit from taking Menovone?

As with many food supplements, it can take an average of 1-3 months for benefits to be felt, although for some individuals this may occur faster.  Many women report that further gradual improvements continue for up to 6 months with isoflavone supplements.

Are there any side-effects with Menovone?

Menovone is a natural, food source isoflavone supplement, which are usually very well tolerated. As with any food, there is always a possibility that individuals can have a sensitivity to one or more of the ingredients contained in the product. We always recommend that in the event of any unusual symptoms being noted upon taking our products they should be discontinued and if necessary a doctor consulted to rule out any other cause for the symptoms.

Will Menovone cause me to gain weight?

Menovone does not cause weight gain.

Can I take Menovone with the contraceptive pill?

There is no reason to believe that Menovone cannot be taken alongside the contraceptive  pill, in the same way that there is no reason to believe that a woman cannot eat a diet rich in soy foods when taking the contraceptive pill. Many women in Asian countries consume a daily diet rich in soya, providing approximately the same amount of plant oestrogens delivered in Menovone, with no evidence that this diet interferes with the contraceptive pill. We always recommend consulting a doctor prior to taking food supplements when on prescription medication, including the contraceptive pill.

Is Menovone safe for women who cannot take synthetic hormone replacement drugs?

Menovone contains natural plant oestrogens (phytoestrogens), and does not contain the synthetic oestrogen found in HRT. It is not a drug or over-the-counter remedy. These natural oestrogens work with your body to support hormonal health naturally and gently.
Menovone may also be helpful for women planning to come off HRT, although this should not be done without the supervision of a health professional.

Can I take Menovone if I am planning pregnancy, if I am pregnant or breast-feeding?

Menovone has not been specifically tested during pregnancy as a food supplement. We would therefore advise against taking this product during this time of life.
We always recommend that those planning pregnancy, who are pregnant or breast-feeding consult their doctor prior to taking any food supplements.

We recommend that anyone on medication or suffering from a medical condition consult their doctor prior to taking any food supplements, including Menovone, to ensure they are compatible.
