What is the difference between Magnesium-B and Magnesium-OK?

Magnesium-B is a special formula combining 300 mg of magnesium with 10 mg of vitamin B6 and additional B-complex vitamins. This product takes into account the special synergistic relationship between magnesium and vitamin B6, both nutrients enhancing each other's absorption. With Magnesium-B we have added a high strength magnesium formula to our range, suitable for both men and women.

By comparison Magnesium-OK is a combination of 145 mg of magnesium, 50 mg of vitamin B6 and 8 mg of zinc with additional co-factors. This product has been specially formulated for women in their reproductive years and we have countless testimonials from consumers telling us how helpful this product has been for them.

Why have you combined the mineral magnesium with vitamin B6?

It would appear that magnesium and vitamin B6 have a special relationship, a theory which was further supported by a study where supplementation of vitamin B6 on its own significantly increased levels of magnesium in plasma and red blood cells.

What can we do to safe-guard magnesium levels in the body?

Magnesium loss from the body may be accelerated with excess consumption of alcohol, coffee, tea, soft drinks (phosphoric acid), salt and sugar. So it may be a good idea to have these in moderation.

I have been told that magnesium is important during times of high demands. Is it true?

Yes, magnesium plays a part in the production of energy, nerve and muscle function as well as the production of hormones that help mind and body to cope under pressure.

Enzymes required for the production of the body's energy molecule require magnesium. This mineral is also required to counterbalance the effect of calcium, which generally has a stimulating effect where magnesium has been shown to reduce the electrical excitability of nerve cells. Adrenaline, a hormone required by the body to adapt to the pressures of life, requires magnesium for its production.

How exactly does magnesium help my energy levels?

As mentioned above, enzymes involved in the production of the body's energy molecule, require magnesium. This energy molecule, also referred to as adenosine triphosphate (ATP) can be compared to a currency, that can be used by all the cells in the body to fulfil their energy requirements.

I have read that taking magnesium may be helpful when suffering from restless leg syndrome?

Magnesium has a close relationship with the mineral calcium in the body. The former acting as a relaxant and the latter as a stimulant. As Magnesium-B provides 300 mg of magnesium with vitamin B6 and B-complex, to enhance the utilisation of magnesium in the body, it may be worth giving this product a try for a couple of months.

Wassen International always recommed that those suffering from a medical condition or on medication consult their doctor prior to taking any food supplements to ensure they are suitable.

Is it true that magnesium is important for cardiovascular health?

Low magnesium status has been associated with various disorders of the cardiovascular system. As the heart works non-stop it has a great need for energy, so one of the areas where magnesium comes into play, as one of the key nutrients for cardiovascular health, is in the production of energy.

The smooth muscles of the blood vessels also require adequate magnesium stores to ensure that they can reach maximum relaxation, which can affect blood pressure.

I am on blood pressure medication and heart medication, can I still take magnesium?

We would recommend that anyone on any type of heart or high blood pressure medication check with their doctor prior to taking any food supplements. In the case of taking additional magnesium it would be advisable to have a regular check-up with the doctor to ensure that the level of medication will not need to be adjusted.
