About the product
Designed for adult women. (Sixteen years to menopause.)
A combination of vitamins and minerals, specially formulated to give nutritional support to women in their reproductive years, with emphasis on magnesium, zinc and vitamin B6.
The main constituents and their nutritional roles
MAGNESIUM
Magnesium is required in increased amounts during times of pressure and also plays an important role for enzyme function in the body. Enzymes act as catalysts which, for example, help convert food into energy or new body tissues.
The modern UK diet is low in magnesium, as repeatedly indicated by the Ministry of Agriculture Fisheries and Foods’ annual ‘National Food Survey’, which shows that the ‘Reference Nutrient Intake’ for magnesium is not achieved through the diet.
Magnesium is necessary for normal sugar metabolism. A deficiency leads to increased insulin secretion and may cause blood sugar instability premenstrually.
Some women with Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) have pronounced premenstrual fluctuations in their magnesium levels, and magnesium supplements may help reduce PMS symptoms such as aches and pains, depression, irritability, mood swings and fluid retention.
ZINC
Sufficient levels of zinc are required for efficient tissue repair as well as the proper synthesis of enzymes, hormones and various brain chemicals. Vitamin B6 works in tandem with zinc in these various functions.
VITAMIN B6
Vitamin B6 is required for protein and tissue synthesis in the body. Enzymes that regulate hormones are composed of protein, which may partly explain the importance of safeguarding vitamin B6 levels in the body for proper hormone function.
Low vitamin B6 levels may be associated with a relative deficiency of dopamine, which may lead to feelings of anxiety and irritability. Vitamin B6 is also a co-factor in the production of essential fatty acids and series 1 prostaglandins, and is also known to normalise low intracellular magnesium levels in women.
ANTIOXIDANT NUTRIENTS
Vitamins C and E together with the trace element selenium exert a protective effect on all the body’s cells.
