About the product
Wassen GlucoSelene contains a synergistic combination of the amino sugar glucosamine (Wassen use the salt free form of glucosamine in this product as glucosamine sulphate 2KCL), trace minerals and vitamins specially formulated to help maintain connective tissue such as cartilage, tendons and ligaments. It also helps maintain joint mobility. GlucoSelene may be helpful for anyone looking to support joint health and those who have physically demanding jobs or hobbies.
Main constituents and their nutritional role
Glucosamine is made naturally in the body but with advancing age this ability might be impaired. Glucosamine sulphate helps the manufacture of substances necessary for proper joint function and renewal and so is popular with active people who have physically demanding lives either due to work or hobby, including sport. Vitamin C is provided as it helps maintain collagen, a component of cartilage. Selenium, manganese, vitamins C and E help provide antioxidant protection of cells and tissues from free radical damage. Vitamin B6 plays a part in protein metabolism and so indirectly in tissue regeneration.
The joints absorb the pressure created between moving bones, which places a high demand on these areas and with it an increased likelihood of wear and tear. As cartilage forms the protective tissue between bones, its condition is a major determinant of joint health.
- Glucosamine acts both as an essential component and stimulant in the production of various substances, including proteoglycans, which are large molecules required for the maintenance of healthy cartilage.
- One of the major attributes of proteoglycans is their ability to hold onto and structure water within cartilage. This allows cartilage to act as a sponge, when pressure is applied, with the water being squeezed out and then drawn back in. This mechanism allows movement and is thought to play an important part in providing joint tissue with nutrients. It is interesting to note that 60-80% of cartilage consists of water.
- Glucosamine is required for the production of synovial fluid, which is the lubricating substance within the joints
Recent clinical trials indicate that specific nutritional support may play an important part in the maintenance of overall joint health.
- Selenium is a trace mineral that plays a part in the protection of cells from free radical damage. This mineral appears to be used up faster when there is inflammation.
- vitamin E works together with selenium and exerts an independent protective effect on cells and tissues.
- vitamin C is an antioxidant vitamin that is an essential co-factor in the production of collagen, which is the glue-like substance that holds all the body’s tissues together and gives them strength and resilience.
- manganese is a trace mineral required for antioxidant protection.
- vitamin B6 is an essential nutrient required for the processes involved in the formation of body proteins and structural compounds.
